What Are You Doin' New Year's Eve?Haven't made plans yet for NYE (hey! that's tomorrow!)
Well, look no further: DCH is having a NYE extravaganza! It wouldn't be a DCH party without our students and performers, so, we are offering discount off ticket prices for our special friends! Starting at midnight, you can use the code DCHFRIEND to receive the discount online (click here for the ticket link). That's only $10 for the 7:30, $15 for the 10:00, and includes all the food and laughs you can stomach. Plus, at the 10:00, there's a champagne toast and dancing as we watch the ball drop. (there will also, most likely, be several "ball drop" jokes because - you know - comedians) The ticket price will help us cover the cost of food and labor. For students, it's probz the cheapest event in town. (I looked up the cost of pad thai delivery and a boxed wine - it's def more than $15. So, officially, I can say it's cheaper than celebrating on my couch.) Limit to one per checkout, and you'll need to show your student/performer ID at the Box Office. Hope to see your beautiful faces as we ring in 2016!

Practice Makes PerfectThere's nothing perfect about improv - which is probably why I like it so much. There are no mistakes, only gifts. You can't mess it up, and even if you DO mess up, it doesn't matter much at all.
So, even though there's no way to "mess up" improv, and no way to be "perfect" at it, there is still a lot to say for practicing and honing your improv skills. Room rentals in the training center for the month of January are up for grabs if your New Years Resolution is to improvE on your improv, get group-minding with your group, and/or just sit in the soon-to-be-complete-freshly-painted-and-spruced-up-training-center for two hours at a time! The short version: $50 for a month or $10/hour for a room. Pay in cash at the last jam of the month (TUESDAY, 12/29 at 8 pm) It may not make you a perfect improviser, but it sure is the perfect way to kick off 2016! Happy practicing. Check out the "How to Rent a Rehearsal Room" page under the "Performing" tab for available spaces and more information! Extreme Makeover: Training Center Edition2015 was a big year for DCH! We said goodbye to our 2645 Commerce location and doubled everything else: twice as many theaters, twice as many classrooms, twice as many buildings!
It's been great and exciting and new and fun and so many things... and now it's time for us to start making this Comedy House a home. While students and teachers are away for Winter Break, we're doing some redecorating in our training center to make it more FUNctional and welcoming. We can't wait for you to see it when you get back! We're also planning a DCH Town Hall on January 12th for students and performers to learn more about DCH operations, ask questions, and connect with one another, a DCH social in February, and much, MUCH MORE! (but, mostly, we're going to make sure the training center has toilet paper in it). IMMERSE YOURSELF!Do you have friends who are interested in improv but also thinking, "7 weeks? I can't commit to SEVEN WEEKS!"
Well, they're in luck! Every winter, before the holidays, we offer a one-week immersion course for level one. There are still a few spots left in the immersion course for this term. Here's the link! There's also a chance to IMMERSE YOURSELF in the upcoming Holiday Party Awards... by making sure you cast a vote. OR you can IMMERSE YOURSELF in a Spacework workshop on Saturday, December 19 with the one and only Ben Pfieffer! There are only a few spaces left. And, also, IMMERSE YOURSELF in showcases this weekend. And, all those teachers out there: We can't wait to IMMERSE OURSELVES in SURVEY FEEDBACK from students! (Hey! Students! Remember to take the Term 6 Survey!) SHOWCASE! SHOWCASE! SHOWCASE!Showcase weekends are full of all the feels.
The nervous energy of Level 1 students as they Czechoslovakia in tight circles to warm-up, the happy tears at Level 5 graduations, loved ones coming out in droves to show their support, the hugs of a relieved class when they DID in fact manage to make people laugh... it's a time when the theater feels extra lively. And, this weekend, we get to have our LAST showcase weekend of 2015. Come out and show support for other classes while you sip on a spiked hot cocoa (quick aside: have you tried one of those yet? They're extra tasty. Just ask Chuchu). Showcase schedule below for your viewing pleasure: |
