And for all of you on top of it Tonys in the world, there are a few new job openings right here at our very own home away from home. That's right: DCH is hiring. Positions in the bar and kitchen, as well as a very exciting full-time position as the Theater Director are posted and ready for your applications. Check out the official postings on the Dallas Comedy House website (linked here) for more information. RSVP FOR TACOS AND PARTY TIME! Our Greentag Social is this Sunday, 3-5pm. There will be tacos. There will be swag. There will hopefully be enough if everyone RSVPs by tonight at midnight. Check you e-mail for the paperless post invite. If you did not receive one, shoot Maggie an e-mail at [email protected]. There are also still a few spots left in Dina & Andy's workshops. You can see more information about the workshops and register here. INFORMATION ABOUT TENT CITY! This blurb isn't fun like the others, but it is important. As some of you may have heard, Tent City - a stretch of tents under I-345 that is home to over 400 houseless individuals in Dallas - is being shut down by the city of Dallas. Because of Tent City's proximity to Deep Ellum, the following official statement from the Deep Ellum Foundation is good for all of us to read and remember: The city is going through phases of closing out and cleaning up Tent City under I-345 with the goal of it being completely shut down by May 4, 2016. In response to this major change in our area, the Deep Ellum Foundation is planning on increasing our Expanded Neighborhood Patrol (ENP) Officer hours to include a day and/or night shift every day throughout the month of May. This is all precautionary and only planned for the month of May. We've talked to several experts on this issue including OurCalling, Crisis Intervention, and our Neighborhood Patrol unit, who all agree that we shouldn't see a major influx in the area, as most of Deep Ellum is all private property. However, we're prepared to handle come what may with our extra officer presence. Along with the officers, we think that the OurCalling app and directory provide the most comprehensive and useful resources for the homeless. The more familiar you and your staff are with this tool the better. I'd highly encourage that you have your whole staff download the app if possible. We also have several copies of the directory if you need any more. If you or someone you know is experiencing any issues with the homeless or panhandlers please call 9-1-1 first, then please let Amanda know so she can contact our designated police officer and make sure our specific incidents are on record as well.

So Many Fun ThingsSitting here thinking about all the fun things coming up for DCH and giggling to myself.
First, there's the Green Tag Social on May 1st from 3-5pm. Let's celebrate one-year in this wacky wonderland of a building at 3025 Main! Tacos and swag for all attendees. Drink specials at the bar. Chillin' in the parking lot like a real life block party. IT'S GONNA BE SO MUCH FUN! Secondly, to celebrate the one-year anniversary we have Dina Facklis and Andy St. Claire in from Chicago April 29-May 1. They'll be doing their improv thing on the stage on Friday, and teaching workshops galore on Saturday and Sunday. Sign-up on the Classes>Workshops tab. SO MUCH LEARNING AND LAUGHING! Thirdly, Term 2 is coming to an end - which means if you are enrolled in classes, you have until Sunday to fill out the Term 2 survey. You should have received it in e-mail from [email protected] on Monday at 7:30. If you didn't, you can also access it here! This survey is an incredible resource for DCH faculty and we take your responses and comments seriously. WHAT A GREAT WAY FOR US TO IMPROVE! There's also a summer kids camp coming up in June and July (if you have kids, they should totally come learn improv this summer! Register at www.dallascoemdyhouse.com) AND even MORE fun announcements and events coming next week. SERIOUSLY SO MUCH FUN STUFF! So, giggle away at all the fun things coming up, my friends. It's going to be a great Spring/Summer. Workshops! Showcases! Early Bird!First of all, you probably noticed that DCHBackstage looks, like, super fancy. You can all "ooh," and "ahh," at this sweet Weebly template while you also bask in the glory of all this wonderful Wednesday information. What a time to be alive, people!
Workshops: We've got a lot of 'em coming up! Dina Facklis and Andy St. Claire from iO and Second City are coming to town the last week in April. Not only are they super hilarious performers (you can catch their two-person show on Friday 4/29 at 10pm), they're also experienced and incredible instructors. Work on your improv in one of their workshops on Saturday, or learn about making a TV pilot in Andy's workshop on Sunday. If you've got kiddos, send 'em to Dina's kids workshop on Sunday afternoon! It's a fun-filled weekend of workshops & wonderment, culminating in our Green Tag Social (5/1/16, 3-5pm at DCH Parking Lot). Plus, we're starting a fun new thing where every third Tuesday of the month, a DCH performer/instructor hosts a workshop drop-in. May & June are hosted by the lovely Sarah Wyatt. It's a great way to keep your skills sharp and get to learn from different instructors. (Thanks, Rich Graham for the idea!) Showcases: It's that time of the month: Student Showcases! The most wonderful time of the year! See the image above for a list of all the showcases happening for Term 2. Come out and support your fellow DCH-ers as they show off all their knowledge. Early Bird: If you're like, "Oh, I want to sign up for a class that starts in May," you should sign-up today and save $30. Or wait until tomorrow and pay full price. HA! That'd be silly! Click here to register. Happy 1 Year Anniversary to 3025 Main Street! On May 1, 2015, covered in sweat, sawdust, and most definitely some gross remnants of the old Club One, the volunteers helping finish out our new home at 3025 Main Street jumped and cheered and cried sweet tears of joy as the City of Dallas gave us a "Green Tag" to officially open.
What a great excuse for a party, amirite people? In the spirit of the Green Tag, we are hosting a Green Tag Social on May 1 from 3-5 pm at DCH. You officially have the green light to get wacky and day drink. Free tacos in the parking lot (Hey Tommy Lee Brown! This one's for you!). Some sweet swag for all who attend. And, of course, lots of bar specials. If you are currently listed on our student or performer roster, you should have received an e-vite from Dallas Comedy House. Please RSVP so we can plan for food and gifts. If you don't receive the e-vite and are a current student or performer, e-mail [email protected]. (It's not intentional!! WE WANT YOU THERE!) In addition to the fun-filled-festivities of the Green Tag Social, we also have special guests Dina Facklis and Andy St. Clair visiting that weekend. They'll be hosting some incredible workshops on Saturday 4/30 and Sunday 5/1. Check 'em out on our workshop page here at DCHBackstage and register before spots fill up! |
