Frequently Asked Questions (DCH Training Center)
Can I sign up for any class?
While some classes are available to anyone, regardless of experience, others require prerequisites.
Do I have to start Improv at Level 1?
Yes. Every improv school has its own methods and curriculum. Our unique curriculum was cultivated to compliment our mission and values. Starting at Level 1 will yield best possible class experience.
When is tuition due?
Tuition is due upon class registration.
How does my Student ID work?
Student IDs are distributed in class at the beginning of each term, and can be used to obtain free admission to DCH shows (with the exception of sold-out or some specialty shows, such as Dallas Comedy Festival shows). Student tickets must be redeemed at the box office. Advance tickets cannot be purchased using a Student ID.
Note: Students will be seated after paying customers. If a show is on track to sell out, we recommend purchasing a ticket.
Do I need to bring anything with me to class?
For improv classes, bring a water bottle and wear some comfortable clothes and shoes for moving around and having fun!
For sketch, stand-up, and storytelling, we recommend bringing a pen and paper or a laptop. You will be doing a lot of writing in these classes!
Can I bring a guest to class, or audit a different class?
In order to maintain consistency and cohesion, we do not allow guests or auditors.
If you are a current student with questions about other DCH classes, please send your questions to Beth Yankuner, Training Center Manager ([email protected]).
What happens if I miss a class?
Our time together in class is limited. In order to maintain pace and performance abilities, we allow one absence per class term and one make-up class (if one is available on another night). To make up a class, you must communicate with your teacher beforehand to get the time and location of the make-up class. If there is not an available make-up class, you may work with your teacher to create a make-up assignment. If you have two absences without any make-ups, you will be asked to resign from the course. You will need to retake the course before moving onto the next level.
What if I need to reschedule a class?
We understand life is busy. If you sign up for a class and an unforeseen schedule conflict arises, we can transfer your credit to a different class or hold your credit for a later term. Credits held will expire after one year. Class transfers are only valid before the scheduled start date. Once a class has begun, credits will not be transferred or held, and no refunds will be given. For additional questions about credit transfers and holds, email Beth Yankuner ([email protected]).
Can I take time off between classes?
Yes. You are not obligated to register for back-to-back terms. However, we sometimes make changes to our curriculum, and we want our students to remain fresh. Students who wait longer than one year to register for a subsequent level may be asked to begin the program again at Level 1.
How do I submit feedback about my student experience?
We love feedback, as it helps us immensely with the development of our training center and theater. At the end of each term, students will receive a survey via email. We encourage you to share your honest feedback and thoughts. The survey is anonymous and we read every single response.
If you wish to share ideas or feedback before the end of your class term, feel free to reach out to one of our staff members.
If you witness or experience misconduct, inappropriate behavior, or anything significant you believe we need to know about, please fill out an Incident Report form.
