Audition for the first Walker Teams Saturday, June 17, 2017 The goal of this program is to support writing at DCH by creating sketch house teams. In short, what Ewing teams did for improvisation, Walker teams will do for sketch. Each month, these teams will put up a 20-25 minute sketch show. They’ll perform that sketch show twice, then they’ll immediately get to work on the next one. The casts of these teams will be reviewed each term, so you can step away after two months or stick with the team. We will continue to hold auditions for more Walker teams throughout the year. Teams will meet once a week and will pay a coaching fee similar to that of a Ewing team. Auditions for Walker teams will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2017.
And, yes, it’s named after Walker: Texas Ranger. Info About the New Sketch Revue Process Many of you have asked about the next round of sketch auditions. We're going to try something new for the next few rounds. For the sketch show opening in late August, we decided to let the director choose her cast. Her primary focus was to choose performers with writing skills and unique performance abilities. For the next few shows, we're going to give this option a go, rather than holding auditions, and we will evaluate the results to decide how we proceed in the future. So what's the best way to get noticed for a sketch revue? Continue to do great work. Most directors will look for performers who have completed the writing program and/or have an extensive comedy writing background. They're also looking for strong actors, as the show is written and performed by the same group of people. Take advantage of stage time whenever you can so you can continue to sharpen the saw.

We're switching things up.Some of you are asking, "hey, Maggie! Where are class registration links?" Well, my sweet comedy friends, here's "what's up". We are in the process of switching our class purchasing platform. Our timeline is to have all classes and electives posted on the new platform by Friday.
What electives, you ask? We're bringing back hip hop dance with Amanda Austin (nothing funny about that). And, Ashley Bright has an advanced improv workshop available for registration. Because we've had a delay in posting classes, intern applications are not due today. Instead, we'll be accepting intern applications for next term until Monday 5/29 at 11:59pm. Spend your Memorial Day filling out an application for an opportunity to get your next class free! We will also be extending Term A early bird by an extra day. Instead of closing on Wednesday, 5/31, it will stay open until Thursday, June 1. Save $30, y'all! A Special Graduation, Shows on a Sunday, & the Next Round of Ewing AuditionsA Special Graduation (Tonight)
In 2016, DCH started registering classes monthly (as opposed to every 8 weeks) on an A/B Term Schedule. It was a big change at the time, and took a little getting used to, but now, for the first time, we have an improv graduation on the B Term Schedule! It's tonight, at 7:30, and it's a big deal. Come out to support Manwich as they earn their diplomas! Shows on a Sunday As you know, our theater is usually dark on Sundays, but THIS weekend, on Sunday, May 21, we're open with THREE SHOWS! David's Two Person Workshop has their showcase at 6:00. At 7:00, come see select performers write and perform unique sketches on the spot at Sketch Dash. And, at 8:00, it's time to get weird at this month's Pipeline show. All the shows will take place in Tharp Theater, back-to-back. The bar will be open! Come thirsty. Ewing Auditions (Saturday, June 3) If you are enrolled in Level 3 improv (or above), you are eligible to audition for DCH's Ewing Teams! The next round of auditions will be held on Saturday, June 3 from 12:00-2:00 pm. If you are selected to perform on a Ewing Team, you will have shows every Thursday night at 9:30 in the months of July and August. It's a great opportunity and all are encouraged to attend the audition. For more information, click here. Last day to register for classes starting next weekJust like the wacky clip-art lady with a timer and the subtitle of this post suggests, tonight is the last night to register for classes starting next week. So, if you are in your last week of improv class or are interested in trying your hand at stand-up next week, get on it before 11;59 pm tonight!
This is a really short What's Up Wednesday, so I'm adding this sentence to make it look more robust. Here's a link to my favorite youtube video, too, to add more content. Gosh, America's Funniest Home Videos really was a great show, wasn't it? Join David in the Writer's Room! We're starting something new at DCH! This month, we are launching Writer's Room.
Writer’s Room is an opportunity for experienced sketch writers to work on their craft! We all know that it’s tough to keep up the discipline of writing when you’re not developing a show. This program will give you the excuse to write consistently and a chance to work with new collaborators. This workshop is available to anyone that has completed the DCH Sketch program or has equivalent experience. Each month, participants will create a new writing packet and have the opportunity to present a sketch to the group to be punched up. To compensate the facilitator, we do ask for a $8 coaching fee each month, but there will be no room rental fee. The first meeting will take place on 5/7 at 4:30 and we will typically meet on the first Sunday of the month. For this first session, the only thing that you would need to have prepared is a single sketch (And it can be something that you wrote previously, but preferably not something that has seen the stage). If you are interested, please email David in advance at [email protected] to reserve a spot. |
