This week, DCH = Dallas Cares, Houston Our neighbors on the Gulf Coast are in the middle of one of the worst natural disasters of a lifetime. To show our support, Dallas Comedy House is launching a few initiatives this week. A food drive for North Texas Food Bank in the Training Center and theater now thru Sunday, all ticket sales from the Sunday shows (including student showcases and a special 'Hometown Houston' show) going to Dallas County Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster, joining Central Track's #DTX4HTX efforts with 20% of all sales on Wednesday, September 6th, and we've reached out to Houston's Station Theater and offered our assistance. If you're located a little further north, our friends at ComedySportz Dallas are donating 20% of their proceeds from their Saturday shows and are accepting additional donations. OKC Improv will be donating proceeds from the Friday, September 8th show, as well. Student Lotto is Back! This show is a fantastic opportunity for students of all levels to receive stage time alongside DCH instructors. The show will happen every Sunday at 6:00 pm and if you'd like to submit, just enter your name in this form! AT THE TRAINING CENTER Today Only: Save $30 on All Classes! Diversity Scholarship Deadline Twice a year, in March and September, Dallas Comedy House reviews and awards tuition scholarships in an effort to cultivate a student body that is reflective of the diversity the Dallas community has to offer. In an effort to continue to diversify, Dallas Comedy House Training Center now offers a scholarship program to foster the learning of members that will increase diversity in the following areas: • race and ethnicity • sexual orientation • gender identification • people over 40 • individuals with disabilities • U.S. military service members or veterans To be considered for the September scholarship award, please submit your application and letter of reference by end of day Sunday, September 10. T-shirt Design Contest
DCH Homecoming is just one month away. There will be dancing, there will be partying, there will be special edition DCH Homecoming T-shirts for purchase designed by ONE OF YOU! We are looking for submissions for t-shirt designs that we can order in time for homecoming. Inspired by the one word suggestion of "homecoming," let's see what you got! All designs should be submitted via e-mail to [email protected] by Tuesday, August 29th at 11:59PM. We will open up the shirts for a vote in next week's What's Up Wednesday. The only limitation we're putting your creativity is to keep vulgarity to a minimum. T-shirt color, design, and all those other factors are up to you. Happy designing! New Class Alert! Storytelling Level 2 You've asked for it, and now it's here! Storytelling Level 2 is officially open for enrollment. This seven week course will go more in depth into Storytelling performance and finding the funny. Check out the full description and register by clicking here. Submit for Sketch Dash Sketch Dash is accepting submissions for their shows on September 2nd and September 16th! Teams are given thirty minutes to create an original sketch inspired by a line of dialogue and everyone, even if they don't have a background in sketch, is allowed to submit to perform. Information on signing up can be found by clicking here. Drink Specials & Bar Reminders In honor of DCH's latest sketch revue, SUSPECT, the bar is mixing special drinks this month.
There are NO outside food or drinks allowed at DCH. Dallas Comedy House is a city coded bar and restaurant and must follow the same operating standards and procedures as other restaurants and bars. This includes water bottles, Boba tea, and anything else not purchased at DCH. Please leave these in your car. These will not be stored anywhere at DCH. Cakes and other festivity food must be prepared in a commercial kitchen (cannot be homemade), and will NOT be stored at Dallas Comedy House. All utensils, plates and otherwise will not be provided or stored at DCH. Any festivity food and otherwise must be cleaned up by those who brought it in. September 'Back to School' Workshops
As kiddos dawn their freshly packed backpacks and teachers bust out the brand new dry erase markers, we at DCH are also caught up in the 'back to school' frenzy! Coming this September, DCH will be hosting three specialty workshops to further hone your performance skills. We are excited to bring in some powerhouse instructors - both local and national - to be a part of this month of workshops.
Shows, Shows, Shows, & Auditions for Shows Friday night is the opening night of DCH's newest sketch revue, Suspect: A True Crimedy. If you like murder podcasts and comedy - or just murder, or just comedy - chances are you'll love this new show. There will be a photobooth in the lobby for opening weekend. Students get in for free with student IDs (pending available seats). This Sunday at 6:00 PM is the August Pipeline show! If you've never been to a Pipeline, it's a super fun, experimental hour of comedy. Hang out with fellow students and performers and they put up some of the goofiest acts you'll see. Tonight, you can check out the debut of SkyWalker's sketch show at 9:30. You only have two chances to see it (this week and next). If you want to be a part of the next round of Walker Sketch Shows, be sure to submit your writing packed by end of day today (Wednesday 8/16) for consideration. DCH Goes to the Movies DCH is proud to be a co-presenter for the comedy shorts block and feature film 'Quality Problems' at the 2nd Annual Women Texas Film Festival. The festival highlights the cinematic work of women and we are excited to be a part of the celebration. Intern applications are due tonight by 11:59PM! Ever wanted to be one of the cool cats in the black staff shirts? Or one of those equally kewl dawgs writing blogs and running tech? Your last chance to apply for a DCH internship is tonight! All interns get their next class comped in exchange for their hard work. Check-out the new DCH Library! It's adorable. It's shaped like a house. It is in the pink nook in the Training Center. Feel free to borrow a book before class or in between rehearsals. There are also some board games for you to enjoy! If you have any extra improv/sketch/stand-up/comedy related books you would like to donate, feel free to add them to the library! Please make sure anything you take off the shelf gets put back for others to enjoy as well. Theater Things Last chance to see 'Return of the '90s' is this weekend! If you haven't seen the current DCH sketch show, check it out this Friday or Saturday at 9:00. See the show my mom calls "The best thing she's seen at DCH" even though I'm not in this show and she's seen me perform a lot at DCH. Walker Wednesdays continue tonight at 9:30! It's your last chance to see teams Walker Hershel and Walker Dog's hilarious sketch shows. And, if you're interested in being on the NEXT Walker team, auditions will be on Saturday, 8/19 at noon. To be considered, you must email David Allison ([email protected]) two sketches (one must be new) by the end of the day on Wednesday, August 16th. You also must have completed at least Sketch 2 at the theater. Pipeline submissions will be posted today! Be on the lookout on the DCH Training Center Facebook Page for the submissions doc for the next Pipeline. Pipeline is a show where anything goes. Try out all your half-baked ideas! The next Pipeline is Saturday, 8/20 at 6:00PM Other Things Submit to be a part of DCH's next ad campaign by 5:00PM TONIGHT (8/9)! This campaign will highlight the real people that call this comedy house their home. It's a print, online, and outdoor campaign, so you could be DALLAS CELEBRITY once it's all said and done!
