BAR SPECIALS Beth is making up some delicious new specials every month and March will be no different. (PS: My favorite bar special - JELL-O shots - will be hitting the bar at the end of the month for DCF. YESSSSS!) EWING EWING EWING The newest Ewing teams - Daffodil and Dandelion - kick off their Ewing run this week. Show 'em your support at 9:30 on Thursdays. Interested in being on a Ewing yourself? The next audition is on 3/24 at noon. SPECIAL SHOWS THIS SATURDAY The 8:00 show on Saturday is a bittersweet, special show for two beloved DCH troupes. CLR will be saying "farewell" in their last show (besides their DCF appearance) by bringing together cast members from years past and present for their performance. ICED COFFEE & COLD BREW AT THE BAR!
Two weeks ago, our staff did a tasting and sampled a bunch of different iced coffee & cold brew coffee options. Now, they're in stock and ready for your consumption. Follow Raye Maddox's lead from the video above and get yourself a bottle. Listen for that pop, y'all! ROOM RENTALS ARE ON TUESDAY! Reserve yourself a room in the Training Center for your rehearsing needs! David will be in the Training Center from 8:00-8:30 to collect rent. $50 for the month of March, $20 for a one-night gig. We will also be posting workshops next week, which will ALSO go on sale at midnight on March 1! Get excited. Set your alarms. Shows will sell out. HELP US WELCOME NEWBIES! You've probably noticed the bar and shows have been pretty busy the last two months. That's great! More people interested in comedy and supporting local acts! As someone who knows a lot about this place, if you see confused customers who might be here for the first time, we'd love your help guiding them to their show (or the bathrooms... or the bar... or just not down the performer hallway). Help us make them feel welcome in our (comedy) house! Happy Valentine's Day! For a present, I got you a bunch of announcements:
Some Housekeeping (Literally) From classrooms, to the training center lounge, to greenrooms - we've got a lot of shared spaces at DCH that get a ton of traffic throughout the week. Please help us keep these spaces inviting and tidy by making sure furniture is put back where you found it (including couches in the Training Center) and trash makes it into trash cans (especially food items). Fest Badges are on Sale If you know you're going to be living it up at the 2018 Dallas Comedy Festival (i.e. attending more than one night of shows), you might want to get yourself a Fest Badge. It guarantees you admission into shows (including headliners Sasheer Zamata and 3Peat), as well as drink tickets, swag, and priority seating. Qe have a limited number of badges we can sell, and we're already halfway sold-out of them! Learn more and purchase a badge here. NOTE: DCH Student and Performer badges do not get into shows for free during the festival. There are also no comps during the festival for performers. Make DCH a Great Place If you've ever thought, "wow. I like being up at DCH. It's a fun place to be," you're right! Help us make it fun for everyone by being a DCH Night Intern! Night interns are the first impression of DCH for ticket holders and a crucial part of what makes DCH so special. You see them all the time in their sweet black DCH shirts, taking tickets and expertly disposing of trash in the dumpster. You probably look up to them, and now you can BE ONE! Applications for Term 2 are due this Thursday. Click here to learn more and apply. Email Photos to Ashley Bright If you've got cool pics of DCH shows and/or shenanigans, e-mail them to Ashley Bright ([email protected]) to be shared with the world via the DCH social medias. Sketch Dash has a New Fearless Leader Sketch Dash is officially produced by Madison Frihart now. Thank you, Jason Hensel, for starting this really neat show and getting it off the ground. Everyone is encouraged to come out to the Level 1 Jam at 8 (get there early to mix and mingle), ESPECIALLY new improv students. Be an Intern! From taking tickets at the door to keeping the training center clean and tidy, interns make DCH a better place to be. Learn more and apply for Term 2 by clicking here. The all LGBTQ+ troupe puts on a full hour of comedy and it's a super fun good time. Last Chance to Sign-up for Tim Marks' Workshop! Tim Marks, founder of the Kick Comedy Theater in Kansas City and the KC Improv Training Center, is teaching an improv workshop at DCH this Sunday, 10:45-12:45. It's called "Let's Not Fight" and I've heard GREAT things, including this testimonial:
Tiny Menus for Tiny Humans! Beth at the bar made the cutest little menus for kids! They're available during the Family Friendly show for our younger patrons. Bring your kids/nephews/nieces/grandkids to the Family Friendly Show (Saturdays at 6) and steal a piece of their little quesadillas! In fact, come out this Saturday for the "My Funny Valentine" pre-show activity. We're makin' Valentines, y'all! Getting into Shows With Your StuPer* ID!
*Student/Performer. I'm going to make 'StuPer' a thing. Join me on this adventure. As a student or performer at DCH, you get a student ID that lets you into shows that are not soldout (or a part of the Dallas Comedy Festival). This is great and you can see a LOT of shows this way! However, as a theater, we have to ensure those paying for tickets are able to be seated AND that we do not oversell a show. NOTE: This is mostly applicable to Friday and Saturday shows. To make sure we are taking care of our StuPers and ticket holders while staying within our capacity limits, we will be implementing a few new systems:
New Sketch Show Structure! In lieu of a continuing with the official sketch revue program, DCH wants to host your sketch show! We're looking for marketable shows that are hilarious, fun and well organized. There are compensation options available for approved shows for a four week run. Please don't wait until the submission deadline to submit a sketch show. There are only so many slots that we can put these shows in and they do fill up fast. Register to Vote! DCH Alum Jill Martinez will be registering people to vote in the DCH theater lobby on Saturday, 2/3 during shows. Get a stamp for the show AND a sticker when you go vote in the primaries! Volunteer for the 2018 Dallas Comedy Festival Want to be a part of the team that makes sure things run smoothly at the Dallas Comedy Festival? Great! We want you! Volunteers ensure performers and patrons alike get to where they need to be, seated and greeted with kindness, and much, much more. Volunteers also receive a free DCF t-shirt and can use their volunteer badge to see any show (so long as it is not sold-out). NOTE: Student and Performer IDs are not valid for festival shows). Click here to learn more and volunteer. Merchhhhhhhh! Beth's got new swag in the bar! The new t-shirts super comfy and cool looking and only $20 (see the pic above). There are also sunglasses, water bottles, notebooks, giftcards... get fully decked out in DCH gear like it's your college sorority and you're super proud to be a DCH. Show & Tell Show On Tuesday, February 6 at 7PM (right before the improv jam) come check out the Show & Tell Show! It's a great way to watch seasoned improvisors and ask them questions in the moment, rather than wait for your next class to have a discussion. It's free and fun! See you there. Last Wednesday of the Month Free Class and 10% Off Classes is TONIGHT! If you're looking to register for your next class, sign-up by 11:59PM tonight for an automatic 10% off tuition. And, if you've got friends who you think would be great improvisers (or could use a little laugh), send 'em our way for the Free Improv Class tonight at 7PM! BIRTHAVERSARY IS HERE!
The 9th Birthaversary has officially arrived! Starting today thru the weekend, all tickets are $9 online AND at the door to celebrate 9 years of DCH. There will also be cupcakes at the bar for free. While you're saddling up to the bar, you can also order a birthday cake shot (yummy) or one of our new beverages (see the picture above). How else are we celebrating #dch9years besides with that sweet and tangy Kombucha and cupcakes? Well...

Improv Level 1 Jam is on the Calendar The Improv Level 1 Jam is a chance for students new and old to mix and mingle and try their hand at improv. Next week, January 24-27, is Dallas Comedy House's 9th Birthaversary! Come celebrate at the theater with $9 tickets to all shows, free cupcakes, and special "Freaky Friday" mix 'em up shows on the 26th. The last nine years have been filled with laughs and memories and moves. Post your favorite DCH memories and #dch9years as we celebrate this milestone! (Photo above is one of my favorite DCH memories: My Improv Level 1 showcase at the old DCH location on Commerce Street. The stage I'm standing on is now the women's restroom at Dot's Hop House. Our suggestion was dinosaur. I'm displaying confidence by having my hand on my hip.) Ewing Auditions on Saturday, January 27 If you are interested in having a weekly show for eight weeks in a row, meeting really cool people, and getting better at improv, you should consider auditioning for the next Ewing! Auditions are on Saturday, January 27 in the DCH theater from 12-2PM. You must be enrolled in Improv Level 3 or higher to audition. More info can be found on the auditions page of this site. Free Old Dallas Comedy Festival Shirts Get 'em while they last! We're officially cycling out old festival t-shirts to make room for 2018 DCF shirts coming soon. You can grab a shirt in the Training Center by the front door for free! Remember to save the date: March 27-31 is the 9th annual Dallas Comedy Festival and you're gonna want to be there for all the laughs. Work at DCH We're hiring bar & kitchen staff! Be one of the friendly faces that makes DCH so special. To learn more and apply, click here. Performers: Turn in Your Headshot & Bio If you are a DCH Performer and want to be featured on our website, please email an updated bio & head shot to David Allison ([email protected]). Show Passes for Students, Performers, and Graduates!
Student/Performer* IDs have been printed for January classes and Term 1 performers. You can pick yours up in the Box Office! And, if you're a DCH grad who no longer has a student pass, you can purchase a Grad Pass at the bar! The pass is only $75 and gets you into shows just like your student ID did while you were in classes. WHAT A DEAL! *What if we call students and performers StuPer? Like "StuPer IDs are printed," or "The StuPer holiday party was super!" I pitched this to the DCH staff and they didn't squeal in delight and tell me I'm a genius so I thought I'd subtly ask y'all in this post. Feel free to comment on this post about how much you love this idea. Two Specialty Shows this Saturday! Saturday night features two super cool shows that only happen once a year. At 8:00, the recording for the Contest 4 Improv 4 Humans takes place, then at 10:30 a bunch of improvisers who have been awake for 48 hours take the stage in 'Sleep Deprived.' Last year, Sleep Deprived sold out, so you may want to get a ticket if you want to see it. StuPer* passes do not guarantee a seat in a soldout show *See note above about this new, hip term all the kids are using Wednesday Night at the Bar A reminder, tonight (and every Wednesday) is happy hour all night and half-off all food for StuPers*! *Wow. StuPer? That must be an abbreviation for "Student and Performer." I like it! Do you like it? I think it should stick around. FRIENDS! I'm* back from maternity leave! Look at my cute daughter! Read these announcements! Stay informed!
*I'm Maggie Rieth Austin, the Training Center Director, and I've been gone since the middle of September raising a small human. I've missed DCH and all of you and I'm excited to be back. Apply to be an Intern: There's still time to apply to be an intern for Term 1! Get your class for free AND be a part of the community. Apply here by end of day tomorrow (Thursday). Submit to Student Lottery: If you are currently enrolled in Improv classes at the Training Center, you can/should submit to be a part of the Student Lottery show! It's a great opportunity to meet other students and get some stage time. Shows happen on Wednesday nights. Click here to submit. Refer Friends, Get Free Stuff: When you register for classes, you may notice a little line that allows registrants to put in the name of who referred them to classes. Well guess what?! If you have two new students register and say you referred them, you get 50% off your next class! Get four new students registered and the whole class is FREE! Similarly, if you refer a someone for a corporate workshop or event and they book with us, you get tuition waived 100% off your next class. Song Recommendation: Now that I'm doing What's Up Wednesday again and not David Allison, there will be no music recommendations. I don't like music. I listen almost exclusively to NPR. I'm a monster. This is officially the day the music died. Wow, it’s the last What’s Up Wednesday of the year! In celebration, please go back and read every WUW post and then comment with your favorite entries. Make sure to start with this one first, it’s probably the best.
