Student & Performer Tips
Fall is upon us! Halloween programming has typically been a busy time at DCH with sold out shows and lots of people who have never been to the theater before. With all the excitement, you might be thinking, "that's spooky!" but, have no fear - with these friendly reminders, you'll be able to navigate DCH like a pro.
Getting in to Shows with Student/Performer IDs
As a student and performer, you have the opportunity to see SO many shows for free! Keep in mind, however, that seats are given to paying customers first and you are not guaranteed a seat at a show if it is sold out.
A new practice for interns is to start taking IDs at the Box Office if a show has sold more than 50% capacity. Once the show starts, names of students/performers who have turned in their ID will be called in the order in which they were received to claim available seats. This ensures we don't: 1) Have to ask you to move once you've already been seated, 2) Can fill in any empty seats in the theater, 3) Have a uniform and fair process for getting students/performers into shows.
You will need to show your ID at the door as your ticket in to the show.
Be sure to check-in with the Box Office when you arrive to see if the show you are hoping to see is at 50% capacity so that you can turn in your ID and not be surprised!
Getting to the Theaters
A reminder that the only way for all students, performers, and patrons to get to the theaters and green rooms is through the main hallway. There is a small hallway by the bar - but this is for waitstaff only. They're carrying lots of glass and balancing trays: this pass through needs to remain clear so they can successfully do their job.
Promote Shows on the "Free Board"
You know that big cork board where all the Trump'd drawings were displayed? That's the Free Board! Anyone can advertise their upcoming shows on that board. Some rules:
This Friday and Saturday, DCH turns back the clock and celebrates the home team at DCH Homecoming! Come out on Friday starting at 6 (and Saturday starting at 5) for some hot dogs and tailgating in the parking lot. Sign-up for a workshop and bring your parents to DCH so they can be proud of all the made-up things you do! Then, dance the night away in an enchanted theater with balloons and other cheap decorations! IT'S HOMECOMING!
There will even be voting for Homecoming King & Queen! On Saturday night, before the dance, you can cast your ballot for your King & Queen. Below is the official Homecoming Court based on your nominations (it's alphabetical):
And, if you haven't already, please email email@example.com with a picture of you in high school to scroll in a PowerPoint throughout the dance.

Reminder that this Sunday is the "inaugural" Pipeline show. Doors open to the Training Center at 7:00pm, where you can grab a comfy seat on a couch or rug, buy a hotdog for $1 and/or purchase a beer or wine. Show starts at 7:30! Show is free! Show is weird! Show is fun! Come support your fellow wacky friends. (Thanks Danielle Seright for reintroducing the word "wacky" to my vernacular).
There are events and picnic tables and trees on Crowdus Street - testing out how it would look and feel if Deep Ellum had a pedestrian street connecting Commerce, Main, and Elm. Go check it out, take pictures, and use the #crowdus. All parking lots and meters will remain the same price (no 'special event' hikes). If you have any feedback you want to pass along to the Deep Ellum Foundation about the Reimagine Crowdus initiative, you can let Amanda or Maggie know.
