Pipeline, Parks, Performing, Promoting, & More!
Submissions Due: 9/9 at 11PM
Show: 9/11 at 6PM in the DCH Training Center.
Submissions are now open for a brand new show taking place in the DCH Training Center: PIPELINE. All DCH students, performers, and staff are welcome to submit for and attend this event! This first show will be an internal event so we can work out any kinks and hopefully expand the audience for future shows. Pipeline is a laid-back, semi-themed show for odds and ends bits — anything you have that’s currently “in the pipeline.” No bit is too dumb or too underdeveloped for this show. This month’s incredibly loose theme is “inaugural.” Feel free to use it, or don’t. There will also be $1 hotdogs (YUM!)
LEVEL ONE JAM
Tuesday, 9/6 at 7PM
We'll start at 7 in the bar, then mosey on over to the theater for some good ol' fashioned improv jam! If you're in Level 1, come get some stage time and meet other students. If you're a student in a different level or a graduate, come introduce yourself! We'll see you there.
Tuesday, 9/6 from 6:15-7:15PM
Jason Hensel will be taking headshots in the Training Center. $20, then you can stick around for the Level One Jam!
Tonight, 8/31 at 10:30PM
We're starting a new show for students! After King of the Mountain tonight, stick around and put your Student ID in a drawing to play in a show with Kyle Austin and Timmy Mayse. It'll be fun and wacky and fun.
The Month of September
Starting September 4th, the Deep Ellum Foundation is building a temporary park on Crowds Street to see what it would be like if Deep Ellum had a real-life park in it! There will be programming every night of the month (including a week dedicated to showing what celebrating different holidays might look like in a future park). You can check out the full calendar and learn more at reimaginecrowdus.com. NOTE: Deep Ellum may be busier than normal and there will be no parking on Crowds during the month of September. However, all paid lots and other street parking will not be affected, nor will traffic going down Elm, Main, or Commerce. Go check out the park before class or between rehearsals: they want to know your feedback. You can also gain more attention to the experiment using #CROWDUS on social media.
Wanna promote your show, but don't know where to start? We updated our Marketing & Promoting page on this site, and pulled it to the top of the page so it's easier to find. Thanks to Jua Holt, there are now lots of resources for making posters and art right here on our very own DCH Backstage.
Homecoming is Where the Heart is.
In exactly ONE MONTH, DCH will be hosting our first ever Homecoming Weekend! There will be food. There will be booze. There will be workshops and dancing. Check out the schedule below:
Friday | September 23
6:00 - 7:00: Homecoming Kick-off
We'll be tailgating just a like a real Friday night Homecoming game. The bar is open with drink specials and we’re grilling burgers and hotdogs outside. We'll also have tons of new DCH swag for purchase to show off your school pride, AND we'll be giving tours of the Training Center and theater to any alumni or guests in for the weekend. Voting for the Homecoming King and Queen will also officially open in the Training Center and theater at this time.
7:00-11:00: Friday Night Lights
Sure - it's the same shows that were scheduled to be on the calendar... but it's more fun because we'll all be drinking signature cocktails and sporting sweet swag. This is our Friday Night Lights, people!
Saturday | September 24
10:30-12:30: Workshop Offerings for Students & Alumni
In the morning, we're hosting two workshops for DCH students and alumni to continue their education. Both are open to all levels and graduates. You can learn more on the workshops page, or by clicking the links below to register:
3:00-4:30: Bring Your Parent to Improv Class
Want to avoid the inevitable, "You should put this in your little comedy routine!" conversation at Thanksgiving? Sign your parent(s) up for this "Bring Your Parent to Improv Class" workshop! This 90-minute workshop is an introduction to improvisational comedy, geared toward current students or alumni of the Dallas Comedy House and their parent. With a two-for-one admissions ticket, you can bring mom or dad with you to show them what all your "skits" are about. Click to Register.
More burgers. More hotdogs. More swag and drink specials. Come hang out in our parking lot.
6:00-7:00: 24 Hour Film Race Screening & Awards
Enjoy this free screening of all 24 Hour Film Race submissions in Tharp Theater.
7:00-8:00: Parent Lotto
Parents, students, and instructors from the Bring Your Parent to Improv Class have a chance to perform together! All ticket sales from this show will go toward our 2017 scholarship fund.
Watch some great comedy.
11:00-2:00: Homecoming Dance
Balloons! Banners! Dresses! Come dance the night away at the Homecoming Dance! At 11:30, we'll crown the King and Queen - then dance some more until the bar kicks us out.
Stretch Yourself: Film Race, Sketch Revue, and Classes
This week's What's Up Wednesday is full of ways to stretch yourself this upcoming month. If you've ever thought, "I think I write some funny sketches and could do a Sketch Revue," consider submitting your packet and auditioning for the Holiday Sketch Revue this Friday! If you sometimes make funny videos with your friends, put together a team and get ready for the 24-Hour Film Race in September! If you want to learn more, register for a class!
SUBMIT YOUR WRITING PACKETS FOR THE NEXT SKETCH REVUE:
Our next DCH produced sketch show is ready for casting! We will be hosting auditions for a show that will open in November and run through December. All levels, graduates, and performers are welcome to attend! This is a paid position and actors will be expected to attend all rehearsals and shows. Rehearsals and writing meetings will begin in September and meet on most Sundays, with an additional weekly rehearsal starting in October. Shows will be on Friday on Saturday throughout the run. Submit your writing packet via e-mail to amanda@dallascomedyhouse by end of day Friday (8/19). You can read more about the requirements on the auditions page. NOTE: This will be a holiday-themed sketch revue directed by Ashley Bright.

Office Hours, Hosting, Workshops, and Parking Violations (YIPPEE!!)
Don't those professionals all meeting together and sharing ideas in the photo above look like they're having a great time? Well, now you can, too!
Amanda, Brian, David, and Maggie will be hosting monthly office hours as a chance to brainstorm and meet-up with students, alumni, and performers. If you have a question or idea you want to share with any of them about the theater, shows, training center, bar and food, or the general direction of DCH, sign-up for a 15-minute spot. You can access the sign-up form here.
And, if that's not fun enough for you, there are also TWO WORKSHOPS coming up in September.
As we say, "See ya' later" to Sarah Wyatt, we are offering her twice sold-out workshop "Finding Your Voice" on Tuesday, September 6. Learn more and sign-up on our workshops page.
And, if you need some personal training-style improv boot camp, Dale Alexander (from Pavlov's Dogs and our Corporate Team) is teaching his D90X Improv Workshop on Wednesday, September 21. Learn more and sign-up on our workshops page.
The new hosting package is in place and should be utilized for shows from this point forward. Show flow has been posted on the door of each green room and the techs have been briefed so that they can answer any questions. Most of the show will remain the same as before, it's just the beginning that will look different.
Starting this week, cars parked illegally (in non-designated parking spots on our lot) will receive a parking warning. In order to have easy access for emergency vehicles, deliveries, and entering/exiting our lot, we need to keep our lot clear. Car information will be recorded and, if you continue to park illegally, repeated offenders will be towed.
We highly recommend downloading the Pay By Phone app for easy street parking at meters. There are also several pay lots near the theater that accept cash and card. If you have any questions, please ask a staff member at Dallas Comedy House.
AUDITIONS! AUDITIONS! AUDITIONS!
CALLING ALL DCH-ERS! We've got auditions! We've got two of 'em! What great opportunities!
Going in for an audition is an important part of being a performer. Whether you think, "Boy, I'm ready for this!" or you're thinking "Gee, this sounds great, but I'm a little nervous..." you should still audition and put yourself out there. You only grow by getting out of your comfort zone.
Perform Every Thursday Night on a Ewing
The next round of Ewing Auditions kick off this Saturday (8/6) at 12:30. To audition, you must be enrolled in Level 3 Improv or higher. Graduates are welcome! Be sure to read over all of the requirements on the Auditions page and come prepared.
Be a Part of the Next Sketch Revue
One of the few paid performing opportunities at DCH, being a part of the Sketch Revue is an amazing opportunity. The next Sketch Revue (after Trump'd) will debut Thanksgiving weekend and run through December 23. It will be Holiday themed. For more information about how to submit and land an audition, see the Auditions page.
Not ready to audition? You can still sign up for classes! Early Bird for Term 5A ends tonight at 11:59pm
