Click here! Nominate DCH for Dallas Observer 'Best of 2017' Dallas Observer's annual 'Best of' nominations are up! They have a ton of different categories available for nominations. It means a lot to local businesses (like DCH) to be nominated (let alone win). If you have time, we would appreciate your nomination(s). Click here! Share your successes! Our new social media manager, Ashley Bright, wants to hear from YOU about the creative and cool things you're doing! Help us celebrate the work of our students and performers. Submit your stuff to [email protected]. Also, shout-out to Jason Hensel & Nick Scott for their combined work the past few years managing the blog and social media for Dallas Comedy House (read blog post here). New Class Savings Opportunity With our adjusting to monthly class registrations in 2016 and moving to a new registration platform earlier this year, our old early bird registration structure is no longer working for us. Starting in August, rather than having early bird savings deadlines, we will have a sale the last Wednesday of every month. Using the code LASTWEDNESDAY on that day, you will save 10% off all classes! It's an easy to remember date for savings (as oppose to changing every term) and we're excited to roll it out. Speaking of Classes...

This week at DCHSHOWS!
Block Party is this Wednesday (tonight!) at 10:30 pm! Hosted by Raye Maddox, this monthly event showcases new improv, stand up and sketch performances. The show is free to watch and if you'd like to participate, you can find more information at https://www.dallascomedyhouse.com/block-party CLASSES! Tonight, early bird registration for classes starting in August (Term 5A) closes at 11:59 PM. Get on that savings and reserve your spot in class! Also, we've got a new workshop posted for continuing your comedy education. It's Cesar's Character Intensive and details are below: Character Intensive Meets nightly Monday August 14 - Friday August 18 | 6:30-9:30 PM Prerequisite: Currently enrolled in Level 5 or a DCH graduate In this 5-day intensive, improvisers will rediscover all 5 levels of the Dallas Comedy House curriculum through a brand new set of eyes. While hitting highlights and milestones from each level we'll also be exploring characters through exercises and class interaction. This workshop is great for improvisers looking to connect with their characters, get back to basics, or just want to relive some of their favorite training milestones. Click to Register BAR! Take advantage of some of the '90s inspired cocktails this month at the bar! Enjoy a Blue Dress (melon vodka, blue curacao, Sprite) and remember when Monica Lewinsky was the biggest scandal in the oval office. Or, keep it wholesome with the Anything for Selena passion fruit margarita. RIP Selena. And, as always, show your student/performer ID at the bar to get those sweet Wednesday night discount! You can pick up your ID at the Box Office. Tonight! Tonight!Usually 'What's Up Wednesday' highlights stuff comin' up a few days from now.
But today... today there is a lot of stuff happening. It's basically like the weekend in the middle of the week. What's Up in the Theater? Tonight at 10:30, come check-out 'Show & Tell.' This show gives students the unique opportunity to watch veteran improvisers perform a set and then ask questions about why they made the moves they made. Get into the head of some of the most seasoned improvisers at the theater! This week: Ashley Bright & Colten Winburn. You can also check out the last 'Deep Dish' show with Joshua Zuar before he moves to Chicago at 8:00. What's Up in the Training Center? Want to get to know more people at the theater AND get your class tuition waived for next term? Then you should be a DCH Intern! The application for term 5A (classes starting at the end of August) is due tonight at 11:59 pm. You will know if you got the internship before early bird registration closes next Wednesday. Click here to apply. What's Up in the Bar? Just like every Wednesday, show your student or performer ID at the bar and get half-off food and happy hour drink prices all night long. Annnnddd - this weekend, in honor of opening weekend for 'Return of the 90s' Sketch Revue, our bar will be stocked with ZIMA!!!!!!!!!! WHAT?! THAT'S CRAZY! WHAT A COOL THING! What's Up in the Training Center? Wednesday is the deadline to register for classes starting next week! Be sure to sign up before 11:59 on Wednesday to reserve your spot and not get charged late enrollment fees. And, a heads up, the first deadline to apply to be an intern is NEXT Wednesday (7/19) at 11:59 PM. If you know you want to intern, go ahead and fill out the application so you can find out sooner rather than later if you'll be accepted. Lastly, we have summer camp coming up next week (7/17-7/21). We will be setting up this week, which means it's more important than ever to put things back if you move them and leave classrooms and shared spaces clean. (We should always put things back the way we found them, but it is especially important as we gear up for kids' camp because I (Maggie) don't want to have to move couches at 7:00 in the morning with my big ol' pregnant body).
What's Up at the Bar?
A reminder that each and every Wednesday is Student and Performer night at the DCH Bar! Show your DCH ID at the bar and get happy hour drink prices all night long AND half-off food! Changes in Improv Level 5, an Improv Level 1 Intensive, and Honor RollIs it Wednesday already? We hope everyone had a relaxing/fun/patriotic Fourth of July weekend. We loved seeing so many of you at Daddy Brian's Backyard Summer Social and are excited to be back at work this week with exciting additions to our training center. Read all about it below:
What will this look like? Level 5a will focus on enhancing your presentation and acting skills on stage. Using the skills you’ve developed through improv levels 1-4, your instructor will help elevate your already smart, comedic choices to the next performance level. Detailed notes from your instructor each week will focus on the following performance components: character work with believable performances, engaging and playing for an audience, and overall presentation as it relates to stage presence, projection, physicality, and spacial recognition of the stage. Level 5b will continue to focus on building a better show with the current Level 5 curriculum. The Level 5 a/b is designed to compliment one another as our students near the end of their improv education with us. Both will be 7 week courses and, beginning in 2018, both will be required for improv graduation. While Level 5a will be officially rolled out as a mandatory course requirement for improv until 2018, we will begin offering it as a course elective starting in Term 5 for those who have already graduated the improv program. To learn more and/or register for Improv 5A, click here.
Honor Roll with Timmy & Kyle is TONIGHT! The first Wednesday of every month at 10:30, Timmy Mayse and Kyle Austin hit the stage with a current student. In previous months, they've gone with a 'pull a name from a fishbowl' approach to picking their student performer. This month, and moving forward, they're switching things up! The student will be selected based on teacher recommendations in advance. So, if you're interested in playing in the show, talk to your instructor about putting in a good word for you.
