Getting into Shows With Your StuPer* ID!
*Student/Performer. I'm going to make 'StuPer' a thing. Join me on this adventure. As a student or performer at DCH, you get a student ID that lets you into shows that are not soldout (or a part of the Dallas Comedy Festival). This is great and you can see a LOT of shows this way! However, as a theater, we have to ensure those paying for tickets are able to be seated AND that we do not oversell a show. NOTE: This is mostly applicable to Friday and Saturday shows. To make sure we are taking care of our StuPers and ticket holders while staying within our capacity limits, we will be implementing a few new systems:
New Sketch Show Structure! In lieu of a continuing with the official sketch revue program, DCH wants to host your sketch show! We're looking for marketable shows that are hilarious, fun and well organized. There are compensation options available for approved shows for a four week run. Please don't wait until the submission deadline to submit a sketch show. There are only so many slots that we can put these shows in and they do fill up fast. Register to Vote! DCH Alum Jill Martinez will be registering people to vote in the DCH theater lobby on Saturday, 2/3 during shows. Get a stamp for the show AND a sticker when you go vote in the primaries! Volunteer for the 2018 Dallas Comedy Festival Want to be a part of the team that makes sure things run smoothly at the Dallas Comedy Festival? Great! We want you! Volunteers ensure performers and patrons alike get to where they need to be, seated and greeted with kindness, and much, much more. Volunteers also receive a free DCF t-shirt and can use their volunteer badge to see any show (so long as it is not sold-out). NOTE: Student and Performer IDs are not valid for festival shows). Click here to learn more and volunteer. Merchhhhhhhh! Beth's got new swag in the bar! The new t-shirts super comfy and cool looking and only $20 (see the pic above). There are also sunglasses, water bottles, notebooks, giftcards... get fully decked out in DCH gear like it's your college sorority and you're super proud to be a DCH. Show & Tell Show On Tuesday, February 6 at 7PM (right before the improv jam) come check out the Show & Tell Show! It's a great way to watch seasoned improvisors and ask them questions in the moment, rather than wait for your next class to have a discussion. It's free and fun! See you there. Last Wednesday of the Month Free Class and 10% Off Classes is TONIGHT! If you're looking to register for your next class, sign-up by 11:59PM tonight for an automatic 10% off tuition. And, if you've got friends who you think would be great improvisers (or could use a little laugh), send 'em our way for the Free Improv Class tonight at 7PM!

Next week, January 24-27, is Dallas Comedy House's 9th Birthaversary! Come celebrate at the theater with $9 tickets to all shows, free cupcakes, and special "Freaky Friday" mix 'em up shows on the 26th. The last nine years have been filled with laughs and memories and moves. Post your favorite DCH memories and #dch9years as we celebrate this milestone! (Photo above is one of my favorite DCH memories: My Improv Level 1 showcase at the old DCH location on Commerce Street. The stage I'm standing on is now the women's restroom at Dot's Hop House. Our suggestion was dinosaur. I'm displaying confidence by having my hand on my hip.) Ewing Auditions on Saturday, January 27 If you are interested in having a weekly show for eight weeks in a row, meeting really cool people, and getting better at improv, you should consider auditioning for the next Ewing! Auditions are on Saturday, January 27 in the DCH theater from 12-2PM. You must be enrolled in Improv Level 3 or higher to audition. More info can be found on the auditions page of this site. Show Passes for Students, Performers, and Graduates!
Student/Performer* IDs have been printed for January classes and Term 1 performers. You can pick yours up in the Box Office! And, if you're a DCH grad who no longer has a student pass, you can purchase a Grad Pass at the bar! The pass is only $75 and gets you into shows just like your student ID did while you were in classes. WHAT A DEAL! *What if we call students and performers StuPer? Like "StuPer IDs are printed," or "The StuPer holiday party was super!" I pitched this to the DCH staff and they didn't squeal in delight and tell me I'm a genius so I thought I'd subtly ask y'all in this post. Feel free to comment on this post about how much you love this idea. Two Specialty Shows this Saturday! Saturday night features two super cool shows that only happen once a year. At 8:00, the recording for the Contest 4 Improv 4 Humans takes place, then at 10:30 a bunch of improvisers who have been awake for 48 hours take the stage in 'Sleep Deprived.' Last year, Sleep Deprived sold out, so you may want to get a ticket if you want to see it. StuPer* passes do not guarantee a seat in a soldout show *See note above about this new, hip term all the kids are using Wednesday Night at the Bar A reminder, tonight (and every Wednesday) is happy hour all night and half-off all food for StuPers*! *Wow. StuPer? That must be an abbreviation for "Student and Performer." I like it! Do you like it? I think it should stick around. FRIENDS! I'm* back from maternity leave! Look at my cute daughter! Read these announcements! Stay informed!
*I'm Maggie Rieth Austin, the Training Center Director, and I've been gone since the middle of September raising a small human. I've missed DCH and all of you and I'm excited to be back. Apply to be an Intern: There's still time to apply to be an intern for Term 1! Get your class for free AND be a part of the community. Apply here by end of day tomorrow (Thursday). It's a great opportunity to meet other students and get some stage time. Shows happen on Wednesday nights. Click here to submit. Refer Friends, Get Free Stuff: When you register for classes, you may notice a little line that allows registrants to put in the name of who referred them to classes. Well guess what?! If you have two new students register and say you referred them, you get 50% off your next class! Get four new students registered and the whole class is FREE! Similarly, if you refer a someone for a corporate workshop or event and they book with us, you get tuition waived 100% off your next class. Song Recommendation: Now that I'm doing What's Up Wednesday again and not David Allison, there will be no music recommendations. I don't like music. I listen almost exclusively to NPR. I'm a monster. This is officially the day the music died. |
