DCH Internship Program
So you want to be a Dallas Comedy House intern? Of course you do! Participating in a DCH internship is a great way to get involved in the community, see shows, and of course, earn tuition!
The next round of intern applications will go live in April 2020.
Night Interns
Night interns work in the theater. Duties include, but are not limited to, working the box office, seating guests, busing and resetting the theaters, maintaining theater cleanliness, and helping create the best possible theater experience for performers and patrons. Night interns work a total of eight shifts (approximately 5 hours each) in exchange for class tuition. Call times vary. The earliest weekday call time is 5:30p; the earliest weekend call time is 12:15p.
Tech Interns
Tech interns are trained to run lights and sound for DCH shows. Techs work one term of assigned duties in exchange for class tuition. During each eight-week term commitment, tech interns must tech a total of 24 shows. Applicants must have availability to work multiple nights per week. All tech intern candidates must have completed Level 3 Improv at DCH and must have a recommendation from their most recent instructor. Please ask your instructor to email the recommendation to [email protected]. Tech interns are not expected to have theater tech skills to qualify to be a tech intern. However, they should have excellent class attendance and shown proficiency in course concepts. All tech interns report to Chris Hansen, the DCH Technical Director.
Blog Interns
Blog interns contribute eight comedic pieces to the DCH blog in exchange for class tuition. Blogs are published on a set day each week, and blog interns will be given strict, time-sensitive deadlines. Blog intern applicants should be prepared to pitch three blog ideas, as well as provide examples of their writing. Applications lacking writing samples will not be entertained.
Street Team Interns
Street team interns help with both internal and external theater promotion. Duties include, but are not limited to, passing out flyers and promotional materials, hanging posters and promotional materials in designated off-site locations, and helping add events to online calendars. Street team interns are given a printed schedule and all appropriate promotional materials. The duties listed on the promotional schedule are equivalent to the eight required intern shifts, thus earning you class tuition.
Photography Interns
Photography interns help document events and collect images for the DCH archives. Like night interns, they will be scheduled for specific work days (approximately 4 hours each). Call times will vary. The earliest weekday call time is 7:00p. Photography intern applicants must provide examples of their work. Applications lacking samples will not be entertained.
Host Interns
Host interns are trained to take the stage before and during shows to welcome, educate, and inspire audiences. Host interns will host a total of 24 specific shows in exchange for class tuition. Call times will vary. The earliest weekday call time will be at 6:30p; the earliest weekend call time will be 12:30p. Host intern applicants are required to submit a recommendation from one of their most recent DCH instructors. Please ask your instructor to email the recommendation to [email protected].
Video Interns
Video interns help create videos for our Online Content Department. Video interns will be assigned specific projects, and assignments will vary depending on our needs. The termly workload will be equivalent to the required eight intern shifts, thus earning you class tuition. Video intern applicants must provide examples of their work. Applications lacking video samples will not be entertained.
How to Apply

Please note: Spots for specialty internships are very limited. We encourage you to apply for all types of internships that interest you, as you may not get picked for your first choice.
The next round of intern applications will go live in April 2020.
FAQs
Who can apply for a DCH internship?
Anyone can apply! However, preference may be given to current DCH students, as we look to our instructors for referrals. If you are not a current DCH student, you can still apply. We will need two references we can contact.
How much tuition do I earn if I work a DCH Internship?
For each intern term worked, you will receive one term of class tuition for any 7-week course.
I have a commitment that may cause me to miss a shift or two. Can I still intern?
The expectation is that if you accept an internship, you will be able to commit to the entire term. If a scheduling conflict arises, you can swap shifts with fellow interns with the approval of the Intern Manager. Interns who miss shifts without finding coverage, or swap an excessive number of shifts, may be removed from the program.
I can't commit to a weekly internship schedule. Are there other options?
If you have a special skill, or want to pitch a unique idea for an internship, we'd love to hear about it. Send an email to Beth Yankuner ([email protected]) and tell us how your service(s) could benefit the theater.
